“Many years ago I worked on a farm at Great
Hampden. We were carting straw bales and my old lightweight drill trousers were not up to the task. On the Saturday afternoon I went to Millets who retailed army surplus in Frogmore, High Wycombe; yes, long ago. They suggested some really robust trousers, the latest thing, just arrived from America. They were called “Jeans”. They had a leather label and copper studs at strategic points.
I wore them to the farm on Monday. One of the good ole boys (both in BD trousers) said
“Cor! Wot you got on, then?”
“They’re Jeans”
“Well Oi’d give ’em back to ‘er!”
Oh, how we roared . . .
Millets say that they were probably Levi 501s; if I still had them they might now be worth £1000 or more; that would depend on somebody actually buying them, and also (perhaps) whether you believe everything you read in the Daily Mail (www.dailymail.co.uk)
Anyway, the point of all this is that currently Where To Sell has seven contributors who are keenly interested in buying clothes and accessories, and hundreds who are “usually interested”.
